Subjects Under Investigation
Australian schools offer subjects across nine Key Learning Areas (KLAs). The study of any of these subjects is optional for all students in Years 11 & 12 (post-compulsory schooling) excepting that in most states and territories the study of at least one English course is compulsory. Not all of the courses below are available in every state and territory and many have slight differences in name and content. Additionally, since around 2000, students have been able to elect to study one or more Vocational Educational or Training (VET) Courses and have these count towards their Year 12 certificate and Australian Teritary Admission Rank. This project considers a selection of 31 subjects taken from these 9 KLA's as well as 5 VET courses where data is available. In some cases a number of different subjects are compounded together to make a generic course (e.g. Ancient, Modern and Australian Histories are compounded as "History").
